Applies to: Retiring Drury employees
Congratulations on your retirement! Drury wants to help you stay connected after you leave — this guide walks through what's available to you, how to set it up, and how to keep it active.
Drury email access is not automatic for retirees — per university policy, it must be requested. This is handled through Human Resources as part of your retirement/exit process.
Once approved, your Drury email account will remain active and you'll keep the same email address you used while employed.
As a retiree, you'll be assigned a Microsoft A1 license. This gives you free web-based access to:
You can reach all of these by signing in at office.com with your Drury email address.
The A1 license covers the online (browser) versions of Office — it does not include the downloadable desktop apps.
If you were using desktop Outlook, Word, or Excel while employed, those installed copies will no longer work once your license changes over to A1 — you are not licensed to use them. You'll do your emailing and document work through the browser at office.com instead.
If you'd rather keep working in the installed desktop apps, you can purchase a personal Microsoft 365 subscription:

Once your personal subscription is set up, you can add your Drury mailbox to desktop Outlook as an additional account, so you'll still see your Drury email right alongside your personal one.
Your Drury email needs to be used to stay active. Accounts that sit inactive for an extended period will eventually be disabled. Signing in and checking your email periodically is all it takes to keep things running.
My desktop Outlook/Word/Excel stopped working after I retired
This is expected — the A1 license only covers the web version of Office, so you're no longer licensed for the desktop apps. Sign in at office.com to access your email, or see Step 4 above if you'd like to keep using desktop apps with a personal subscription.
I can't sign in at office.com
Double check you're using your full Drury email address and your usual Drury password. If it still won't work, submit a ticket and we'll look into it.
I haven't used my account in a while and now I can't sign in
Your account may have been disabled due to inactivity. Submit a ticket and we can look at reactivating it.
Questions about your retiree access? Submit a ticket to the Technology Services Help Desk and we'll get you sorted out.
