How to Access Microsoft Office

Applies to: Drury University students

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more) is available to all Drury students at no additional cost. You can use it right in your browser or install the full desktop apps on your computer — pick whichever option below fits how you work.

1 Use Office Online (Web Version)

Getting started:

  • Go to office.com.
  • Click Sign In.
  • Enter your school email address (e.g., username@drury.edu) and password.
  • Once signed in, you'll land on the Microsoft 365 home page with all your available web apps.

Opening an app:

The most commonly used apps — Word, Excel, and PowerPoint — appear as tiles right on the home page. Click any tile to open that app in your browser.

For everything else, click the App Launcher (the 9-dot grid icon in the upper-left corner). This opens a menu with all available Microsoft 365 apps, including:

  • Word – create and edit documents
  • Excel – work with spreadsheets
  • PowerPoint – build presentations
  • OneNote – take and organize notes
  • Outlook – access email and calendar
  • OneDrive – store and share files
  • Teams – collaborate and communicate
  • Forms – create surveys and quizzes
  • To Do – manage tasks and lists

Click any app to open it instantly in your browser.

Creating a new document: From the home page, click New at the top, then choose the type of file you want to create (Word document, Excel workbook, PowerPoint presentation, etc.).

Opening a recent file: Files you've recently worked on appear right on the home page — just click one to reopen it in the matching web app.

No installation required. Everything runs in your browser, and your files are saved automatically to OneDrive.

2 Download the Office Apps

Prefer working offline or want Office installed directly on your computer? Install the full desktop versions instead:

  • Sign in at office.com.
  • On the home page, click Install apps in the top-right corner.
  • Choose Microsoft 365 Apps.
  • Download and run the installer.
  • Once installed, open any Office app (Word, Excel, etc.) and sign in with your school account.

This installs the full desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and other Office applications on your computer, so you can work offline any time.
